Sunday’s Big Idea
It is Easter and we continued our Love and Death series by talking through John 13-21 in reverse. While prepping for today’s sermon I kept seeing the movie Inception in my head. I kept thinking why not start with the ending! Jesus was raised from the dead and that was God’s guarantee that the sacrifice Jesus made was accepted. Then we continued to back track all the way to the Lord’s Supper. What a lot of people don’t catch is that everything that happened in John 13 through the end of John 17 took place in a couple of hours. Today there were two big ideas. First, was when Jesus said, “it is finished.” This was a loaded statement full of implications that we don’t have time to discuss here but you can listen to it on our podcast. The other big idea today was Jesus had a bucket list of sorts. In his last hours of life He decided it was more important to impart final teachings to His disciples. Those lessons are to pray, lay our lives down, abide in him, hell on earth is coming as well as the Holy Spirit, and finally that Passover is about Him. Have a great resurrection day.
